Electronic Travel Authorization scheme makes travel to Britain easier and cheaper for the nationals from GCC(Gulf Cooperation Council) and Jordan. They just need to pay £10 to apply for an ETA and can visit UK multiple times over a two years period by using this. This is really cheap when we compare the current visa for Gulf nationals, £30 per visit to the UK under the current Electronic Visa Wavier (EVW) scheme and Jordanian nationals £100 for a visit visa. The above said scheme is set to launch in October 2023 for Qatari nationals and for the remaining GCC and Jordan nationals in Feb 2024. This ETA (digital permission) can be used to visit or transit through the UK and the visitors do not need a visa for the short stays. This system is for the digitization of UK border and by 2025, this is going to get further enhanced to border security and the customer experiences. By implementing this scheme, visa requirements will be removed for the nationals from GCC states and Jordan and bring the new requirements for them same as those from the US and Australia. ETA application process is entirely digital via mobile app, simple and fast to complete. Individuals will need to provide digital photograph and answer a set of suitability questions to apply for this.  | |
