Ahmedabad, May 21, 2025 — The price of PA66 (Polyamide 66), a widely used engineering thermoplastic, has recorded a notable drop in the Ahmedabad market. The imported grade was priced at ₹317 per kg on May 20 and fell to ₹313 per kg on May 21 — a clear ₹4 per kg decline within 24 hours. This drop is seen as a result of several market factors, both global and domestic. Stabilizing raw material prices worldwide, improved logistics from key export hubs like China, the United States, and Western Europe, and a temporary slowdown in domestic demand from the automotive and appliance sectors are all contributing factors. Leading international producers of PA66 include BASF (Germany), Ascend Performance Materials (USA), Invista (USA), and DSM Engineering Materials (Netherlands). These companies supply a significant share of the global PA66 demand, including exports to India. With supply chains normalizing post-pandemic and freight costs easing, landed costs for Indian importers have slightly come down — reflecting in the local price correction. On the Indian front, SRF Ltd., GAIL (India) Ltd., and Reliance Industries are notable names involved in the broader engineering polymer and nylon segment, though domestic production of high-grade PA66 remains limited. Most processors in India still rely heavily on imported PA66 resin, especially for applications requiring high mechanical strength, heat resistance, and durability. Traders in Ahmedabad have mixed views. Some expect this price dip to be short-lived, with potential recovery in early June depending on industrial demand. Others believe the downward pressure may persist due to sufficient inventory levels and slow-moving orders. A local supplier commented, “This price drop has come after months of continuous hikes. It's a relief for processors, especially in the injection molding and auto component sectors. But we are cautious — prices could swing back if global demand rebounds.” Looking ahead, market participants are watching closely as the June-July period may bring renewed demand in line with seasonal trends and industrial restocking.
