The upward movement in prices comes amid improved demand from the downstream nylon industry and tightening supply conditions across key production hubs. Caprolactam, a crucial intermediate chemical, is primarily used in the production of Nylon-6 fibers and resins, which find extensive applications in textiles, automotive parts, electrical components, and engineering plastics. The duty-paid grade in powder form is especially sought after in high-precision industrial uses due to its purity and processing efficiency. Sources from Ahmedabad’s polymer trading community suggest that the price rise is driven by a combination of rising international input costs and reviving demand from textile and plastic component manufacturers. With the textile industry in Gujarat operating at better utilization rates, consumption of nylon-based intermediates has also picked up. Producers are reportedly facing mild pressure due to elevated costs of feedstocks like benzene and cyclohexanone, key inputs for caprolactam manufacturing.
