A fluidized bed is produced by passing a gas stream through a bed of solid particles. When the gas velocity is low, the particles are dispersed on a gas distribution plate and the bed stays stationary. As the fluidizing gas travels through the bed, the distributor disperses it uniformly. The gas velocity at which the bed becomes fluidized is the lowest fluidization velocity. In this way, the fluidization of the bed is achieved by increasing the gas velocity. The gas velocity of a fluidized bed dryer is higher than the minimum fluidization velocity of the material being treated. The boiling of solid particles of material below is the result of particles processed in air being suspended due to this rise in gas velocity.  | |
